Billboard Communicative, Michelle Xen, QAGOMA Melville Haysom Scholarship.

Billboard Communicative is a large scale painting multimedia installation developed during the Melville Haysom Scholarship at QAGOMA.

Featuring two opposing large paintings of billboards, video is projection-mapped onto the work, setting up a dialogue between them. The commercial media found on billboards is stripped out leaving soft footage of rolling clouds.

SLOWGROUND

Slowground, Michelle Xen & Richard Candy, 2020, single channel video.

Slowground is a single channel video work commissioned by HOTA (Home of the Arts).

Michelle Xen collaborated with industrial and lighting designer Richard Candy to explore the site, isolation and phenomena during the lockdowns in Australia in 2020. Footage for the work was sourced via drone and composited using kaleidoscopic effects exploring light phenomena and other-worldly suggestions.

MAGNETIC FIELD

Magnetic Field, Michelle Xen, 2020, single channel video.

Commissioned by the Asia Pacific Architecture Forum, Magnetic Field is an animated field work exploring light and geometry through movement.

GLIMMER REMIXED

Glimmer Remixed, Michelle Xen, 2012, single channel video (still image).

Glimmer Remixed is an experimental single channel video and print series, based on remixing the artists earlier music releases.

Drawing on a canon of deconstruction within portraiture, the remix process fractures the pop music experiments created in early music videos by Xen.

The works exists as a video and series of stills images.

LIGHT SURGE

ART // ALL WORKS

Light surge, Michelle Xen, 2018, single channel video (still image).

Commissioned by the Asia Pacific Architecture Forum, Light Surge was created as a response to the dynamic refraction of light by large bodies of water. The work seeks to examine how architecture uses organic light refraction to define structure.

CRUSH POP BOX II

Crush Pop Box II, Michelle Xen, 2012, multimedia installation.

The Crush Pop Box II is multimedia installation using remixed video and sound by Michelle Xen. Housed in a square black box, two screens sit opposite in a form of dialogue, visible from both the interior and exterior of the box.

Created as part of a Master of Arts in Research, Queensland University of Technology.
